What is soaring?
Soaring is the unique experience of flying without any motor other than that of rising air currents. It is to fly sometimes for hours and for hundreds of kilometres, navigating the sky silently at the controls of a “sailboat in the sky”.

What is glider plane ?
Sailplane or glider is an aircraft which has been designed to have very flat gliding angle. This aircraft is not tube and fabric hang gliders, but fully rigid wings and equipped with limited instruments and controls just like normal airplane. The only difference with conventional aircraft is that glider doesn't have engine. Glider use gravity and utilize thermal as its power.

How can a glider stay in the air without engine?
A powered aircraft will tow you up to certain altitude before you fly on your own, when the desired height is reached the pilot will release from the tow aircraft. By nature glider is always sinking slowly towards the ground at its designed rate of descent. To stay in the air pilot must find rising column of air currents, called thermals, and stay within them. If the upward force from the thermals is stronger than the descent rate of the glider, the glider will gain altitud then sets off in the desired direction. By flying from one thermal to another it is possible to stay in the air for hours and to cover hundreds of kilometres.

How do I control the plane ?
Just like any other conventional aircraft, gliders has similar control. You move the stick and pedal to control the movement of its aileron, rudder and elevator.

What do sailplane pilot do during flight ?
The saiplane pilot searches for thermals, then circles in a thermal like a bird to gain altitude. An experienced pilot can get a good idea of where the thermals are by observing the clouds or the nature of the ground below.

How do glider pilots find thermals?

All gliders have an instrument called a variometer. These instruments show the pilot how quickly the glider is ascending or descending relative to the surrounding air mass. These instruments are very sensitive and can indicate tiny variations in the vertical ascent or descent rate of the glider.

Is soaring dangerous?
Like any other flying activities, risk is involved. But we have certain procedure to minimize the risk. In all our activities, safety comes first!

What happens if the thermal or wind drops ?
Nothing happens if the wind drops. The wind has no influence on the capacity of the glider to stay in the air. A glider flies

How can I try this out?
Our club offer glider rides or JoyFlight during our normal operating time. (Weather permitted). You will discover the pleasure and the sensations of soaring.

Who can take the joy flight?

Everyone can enjoy the exicitng and stimulating adventure of glider flight. However due to cockpit size and weight balance requirement, all pilot and passenger must not exceed the aircraft maximum weight restriction. (Depends on the aircraft model). Children over 10 yrs of age are also more suited to enjoy the experience of flight.

What kind of plane will I fly and who will fly with me ?
All JoyFlight are carried out under the comamnd of a experienced pilot. Normally you will fly with our dual seater SGU2-22 trainer aircraft, although different kind of aircraft can be arrange with additional charge. SGU2-22 gliders have a tandem configuration with one seat behind the other. You will strapped in the front seat while the pilot is in the back. This aircraft has dual control stick that allow you or the pilot control its maneuver. Under some circumstances pilot may take front seat in order to maintain correct balance of the aircraft.

How long and what happens during the flight ?
Normaly the flight are about 15-30 minutes, could be even more depending on the weather and thermal conditions. Depend on your interest and if conditions permit, the instructor may give you the chance to take control of the gliders, learning how to keep it level & straight, banking left and right, or even experience "stall". Don't worry, because our experienced pilot will keep you and the aircraft under his close supervision.

What should I bring with me ?
Please remember to bring a hat and sunscreen with you for sun protection and by all means you may bring a camera and take photos as a memento of your flight with us.
